Transferring Workspace Ownership to Another Account
Last updated October 12, 2026 · 2 min read
Hand your workspace to a different Obvious account in three short steps: the new account takes over as owner with full control, and removing your original address revokes its access completely and immediately.
Before you start
The new email address needs an Obvious account before it can become an owner in the workspace. If you haven't signed up with it yet, start there.
If the new address does not have an Obvious account yet, you can still send the invite: it stays pending until the person signs up and joins the workspace.
Transfer ownership
-
Go to the workspace members page.
-
Use the search bar at the top to find the new email address, invite it to the workspace, and set its role to owner.
If you want the invite flow in detail, see Managing Team Members.
-
Once the new address is in with the owner role, find your original email address in the same list, open the dropdown under the role column, and remove it from the workspace. Confirm the removal in the dialog that appears.
For the vocabulary of workspace roles, see Roles & Permissions.
What removing the original address revokes
When you remove the original address from the workspace after the transfer, Obvious automatically revokes all of its access: its workspace membership, any projects it was individually shared on, and any projects it owned within the workspace. The removed account immediately loses access to every workspace resource: projects, documents, sheets, and shared data. If you re-add that account later, it rejoins as a regular workspace member and does not automatically regain access to projects it was previously shared on. Those projects need to be re-shared individually.
