Use Appearance settings to personalize how Obvious looks and feels for you — choose a theme, adjust text size, control document width, and turn on Clean docs for a distraction-free writing surface. All settings here are personal and don't affect anyone else in your workspace. Changes save automatically.

Settings on this page

Theme sets the overall color scheme. Choose Light, Dark, or System. System follows your operating system and switches automatically when you toggle your device's appearance.

Message color changes the accent color of your messages in chat.

High contrast increases text and border contrast throughout the interface. Works with any theme.

Font size adjusts the base text size across Obvious.

Document width controls how wide documents render on screen. A narrower setting can make long-form reading easier.

Code theme sets the syntax highlighting style for code blocks.

Clean docs hides the formatting toolbar and the border beneath the document title, leaving just the text. Turn it on when you want a quieter writing surface; turn it off to bring the toolbar back.

Clean docs

Toggle Clean docs on from your Appearance settings. The change takes effect immediately — the formatting toolbar and title border disappear, leaving just the text. Your document content, headings, and inline formatting stay fully visible and editable. Keyboard shortcuts work the same way. Toggle it back off at any time to restore the toolbar.
