Assistant Settings

Published April 14, 2026 · Last updated April 18, 2026 · 4 min read

Configure your assistant's name, avatar, tone, knowledge, and daily briefing schedule — and learn how to use the floating chat panel.

This page requires the assistant feature to be enabled for your workspace. If you don't see it, reach out to help@obvious.ai.

Settings

Open Settings → Assistant from the sidebar. You can also go directly to /settings/assistant.

If no assistant has been set up yet, the page shows a prompt to get started. Follow the link to configure one before the settings below become available.

Name

Give your assistant a name — up to 50 characters. This is the name shown to end users when the assistant responds.

Leave it blank and Obvious picks one automatically from a curated list. You'll get something like Buzz, Dory, or Nemo — not "Assistant 1."

Changes save automatically as you type.

Color

Choose a color palette for the assistant's avatar. Click any swatch to apply it. The change previews immediately and saves automatically.

Tone

The tone slider controls how your assistant communicates — from stripped-back and factual to warm and expressive. Five positions:

LevelLabelWhat it means
1MinimalJust the facts
2DirectClear, no fluff
3BalancedSmart, confident, witty (default)
4ConversationalIrreverent, self-aware
5ExpressiveFull personality

Drag the slider to the level that fits how you want the assistant to communicate. A save indicator confirms the change.

Knowledge card

The knowledge card stores facts about you that your assistant — and other agents in your workspace — can draw on. You edit it directly on the settings page; no separate form required.

Core profile fields appear at the top of the card. Click any field to edit it inline. Fields with a checkmark icon have been verified.

Below the core fields, two expandable sections let you manage domain-specific facts:

  • Work — context about your role, projects, and responsibilities

  • Identity — personal preferences and working style

Click a section to expand it. Each fact shows an edit and delete option. Click + Add a fact to add a new entry to either section.

At the bottom of the card, the What can other agents see? section shows exactly which facts are visible to other agents in your workspace. Facts listed there are shared across agents; anything not listed stays private to your assistant.

Daily briefing

Enable the daily briefing to receive an automated summary each weekday morning at 9:00 AM. The briefing is sent directly to your assistant and covers recent activity, upcoming events, and anything the assistant thinks you should know about.

Toggle it on or off from the Daily briefing row in your assistant settings.

Auto-save

All settings save automatically — no separate save button. A brief confirmation indicator appears after each change.

Using the floating panel

When the assistant feature is enabled, your workspace includes a floating chat panel. It works like the sidebar assistant, just in a panel you can move anywhere on screen.

Open and close the panel

Click the assistant icon in the sidebar or main UI to open the panel. Click it again to close it.

You can also press Ctrl+A to toggle the panel open or closed from anywhere in Obvious.

Move and position it

The panel is draggable — click and drag it anywhere on your screen. When you release it, it snaps to the nearest corner with a quick spring animation.

That corner position is saved. The next time you open Obvious, the panel opens in the same corner you left it.

If you resize your browser window, the panel automatically re-snaps to its current corner so it stays in place.

What's inside

The floating panel shows the same chat interface as the sidebar assistant. Everything works the same way — you're just working from a panel that sits on top of your workspace instead of alongside it.

Troubleshooting

The assistant settings page isn't showing up. The assistant feature needs to be enabled for your workspace. Contact help@obvious.ai to request access.

Changes aren't saving. Settings save automatically after each change. If the confirmation indicator doesn't appear, try refreshing the page and making the change again. If the problem persists, contact help@obvious.ai.

The daily briefing isn't arriving. Check that the Daily briefing toggle is turned on. If both look correct and briefings still aren't arriving, contact help@obvious.ai.
