IP Access Denied

Published February 28, 2026 · Last updated March 5, 2026 · 2 min read

You're seeing an "Access Denied" message because your workspace has IP access rules enabled, and your current IP address isn't on the allowlist. The screen displays your IP address and a Sign Out button.

What's happening

Workspace admins restrict access to approved IP addresses. Your IP is checked against an allowlist (allowed IPs) and a blocklist (denied IPs); if it's not allowed or is blocked, you're denied access. The screen shows your current IP to share with your admin.

Common causes

  • New network: Different locations (e.g., coffee shop, hotel Wi-Fi) mean a different IP, likely not on the allowlist.
  • IP rotation: Home internet providers periodically change your IP address.
  • VPN status: Connecting or disconnecting a VPN changes your IP, potentially blocking access if the new IP isn't allowlisted.

How to get access

  1. Copy your IP address from the blocked screen.
  2. Send it to your workspace admin to add to the allowlist (in workspace security settings).
  3. Wait for confirmation. Once your admin adds your IP, the change takes effect on your next sign-in attempt.

Still blocked?

  • Confirm your VPN status; it changes your IP.
  • Ask your admin to check if your IP is on the blocklist or if a proxy/firewall is altering your visible IP.
  • If your admin is unavailable, contact Obvious support at help@obvious.ai.
