Exporting Data

Export a single sheet from a workbook as a CSV or Excel file for use outside Obvious.
Ask the Agent
The quickest way: tell the agent what you need.
Export this sheet as a CSV.
The agent triggers the download and the file saves to your browser's default downloads folder. You can also ask for Excel:
Download this sheet as an Excel file.
Export Manually
-
Open the workbook and navigate to the sheet you want to export.
-
Click the Download button in the toolbar (the downward arrow icon). A dropdown menu appears.
-
Under the Current Sheet section, click CSV File or Excel Spreadsheet.
-
If you have unsaved edits, Obvious saves them before starting the export. The file downloads automatically once it's ready.
CSV vs. Excel
| Format | Best for |
|---|---|
| CSV (.csv) | Importing into other tools, databases, or scripts. Plain text — opens anywhere. |
| Excel (.xlsx) | Sharing with teammates who use Excel or Google Sheets. Preserves formatting. |
Tip: The Download dropdown also shows options for the full workbook under Download Options. If you need every sheet at once, use those — or see Bulk Export for the full walkthrough.
Where Does the File Go?
The file downloads through your browser, so it lands in whatever folder your browser uses for downloads. On most systems, that's a folder called Downloads. Obvious doesn't store exported files — the download is a one-time snapshot of your sheet data at that moment.
Next Steps
