Working with Images

Upload images to your project, embed them in documents, or let the agent generate and process them — all without leaving Obvious.

Upload an Image

Drag and drop an image file into the chat or click the + button next to the message bar and select your file. Obvious accepts JPEG, PNG, GIF, and WebP formats up to 500 MB.

Uploaded images appear in your project's file library.

Use Images in Documents

Embed any image in a document by copying and pasting it or using markdown syntax:

![Description of the image](image-url)

The agent handles this for you. Drop an image into the chat and ask:

Add this image to my document.

For banner images at the top of a document, open the document's menu and select Add cover image, or ask the agent:

Add a cover image of a product dashboard to this document.

Generate Images with AI

Ask the agent to create an image from a description:

Generate a flat-style illustration of a team collaborating around a data dashboard, blue and purple tones.

The agent generates the image and saves it to your project files. Embed it in a document, use it as a cover image, or download it.

Specific prompts get better results — include style, colors, composition, and mood. For anything with text or labels (diagrams, wireframes, mockups), ask for "pro quality" to get sharper rendering.

To edit a generated image, reference it in a follow-up message:

Make the background darker and add a subtle grid pattern.

The agent modifies the existing image rather than starting from scratch.

Let the Agent Process Your Images

The agent can read and analyze images you upload. Drop a screenshot, chart, or photo into the chat and ask:

What data is shown in this chart?

Extract the text from this whiteboard photo.

The agent sees the image directly — no extra steps needed.

Edit an Image with the Image Editor

The image editor lets you adjust, filter, and transform any image artifact — without leaving Obvious.

Click Edit image in the file viewer toolbar. The editor opens as a panel on the right side of the viewer, pushing the image to the left so you can see both at once.

Describe an edit

Type a description of what you want to change in the text box at the top of the editor, then click Apply.

Make the background a deep navy blue.

Obvious processes your request and updates the image. The result replaces the original in place.

Apply a filter preset

Scroll through the filter strip below the prompt box. Each thumbnail shows the current image with that filter applied. Click one to apply it instantly.

To remove a filter, click Reset next to the Filters section heading.

Adjust manually

Use the sliders in the Adjustments section to fine-tune:

  • Brightness — lighten or darken the image

  • Contrast — increase or reduce tonal range

  • Tint — shift the color temperature

  • Highlights — pull detail back from bright areas

  • Shadows — lift or deepen dark areas

Changes apply to the viewer in real time as you drag. Click Reset next to the Adjustments heading to return all sliders to their defaults.

Change card roundness

The Card Roundness section has four options that control how rounded the image corners appear in the viewer. Click any preset to apply it. Click Reset to return to square corners.

Resize the editor panel

Drag the left edge of the editor panel to make it wider or narrower. The panel resizes between a compact and a wider layout — whatever fits your workflow. Obvious remembers your preferred width.

Edits persist automatically

Filter, adjustment, and roundness settings are saved to the image automatically. They survive navigation and page refreshes — you don't need to save manually.

To close the editor, click Close image editor in the toolbar.
