Upload a video file to your project and play it back directly in Obvious.
When you upload a video file to a project, Obvious creates a video artifact — a playable version of the file that lives alongside your other project content. You can watch it without leaving the project.
What you'll need
You need Editor access or higher on the project. Viewer access lets you watch videos, but not upload them.
Supported file formats
Obvious accepts the following video formats:
- MP4 (.mp4) — best compatibility across devices and browsers
- WebM (.webm)
If your file is in a different format, convert it to MP4 before uploading — it's the most reliably supported format.
Upload a video
- Open the project you want to add the video to.
- Click + Add in the project sidebar. Select Upload file from the menu.
- Choose your video file. Obvious begins uploading immediately — a progress indicator appears while the file transfers.
- When the upload finishes, the video appears as an artifact in your project with a play button icon. Click it to open the video player.
Play back a video
Click any video artifact to open it. The player includes:
- Play / Pause — start and stop playback
- Seek bar — click anywhere on the progress bar to jump to that point in the video
- Volume control — adjust the volume or mute with the speaker icon
- Timestamp — shows your current position and total duration
If the video doesn't play
Obvious displays an error if the video file can't be loaded. This usually means the file is in an unsupported format or was corrupted during upload. Download the original file, confirm the format is supported, and re-upload.
